AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES AND HOMEOPATHY
AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES AND HOMEOPATHY

Homeopathy of Tomorrow
In the field of pathology—these days—myriad diseases are regarded or labeled as ‘autoimmune diseases;’ by which they mean a medical problem that is either incurable or quite difficult to handle in routine manner. Few years back there were quite a few such diseases that were regarded as such. Now scores of maladies are labeled as autoimmune diseases—and the onslaught is on the rise, not mitigating. Every casethat does not respond to normal treatment or behaves abnormally, the mind turns to suspect that the problem might be caused by autoimmunity. I whole heartedly agree with Dr. Vithoulkas who uses the phrase ‘autoimmune Disorder’ instead of ‘autoimmune disease’. This is very wise of him to express in this way. The status of Disease cannot be ascribed to a Disorder. A disorder can be an erratic occurrence, from a mild to a serious level, which can be quite unmanageable and disorderly proliferating to unimaginable boundaries. But it will remain a disorder, lacking the organized or predictable structure of a disease.
Homeopathy acts in unison with the vital force or the primordial immune system. Most of the symptoms of the patient in acute diseases are symptoms of the immune system as to how it responds to the crises of the acute episode. Unquenchable thirst, e.g., in acute fever or the total lack of that, is created by the immune system in its curative attempt or response. After diagnosing the disease you collect symptoms that have been created in the patient by the remedial attempt of the immune system.
Now you select a morbific agent that have the pathology of the case plus a ditto facsimile of the symptoms created by the immune response from among the proving records of homeopathic medicines, collated in a book called homeopathic Materia medica. This agent which you’ll thus choose is that medicine or substance which if given to a healthy person will create an exact similar ‘drug disease’ having the same jumble of symptoms as the present patient. This medicine, by dint of the exact similarity, redoubles (or. augments) the force or intensity of the real disease; hence giving thereby a sudden boost to the vital force of the immune system. But the force of this artificial disease (i.e. the indicated homeopathic remedy) soon gets spent up as it was a powerful potency without material substance. But the push or the impetus that was thus suddenly given to the vital force gives it an ample strength that can annihilate and dismantle the whole morbid phenomenon.
Now this was the modus operandi of the primordial phenomenon of the action of the vital force or the immune system vis-a-vise the morbific invasion of the body. Come AUTOIMMUNE—never heard of before, phenomenon. Now, evidently, you can’t work in unison with the warped vital force or the immune system, because going with it will spell disaster.
This is the situation; and here lies the difficulty for a homeopathic physician. His indicated remedy does not work. He will find himself totally incapacitated. Simple fever, if it is the part of the autoimmune disorder, will defy any indicated medicine; because it will, ipso facto, never be the really indicated remedy.
In this blatant chaos Hahnemann’s philosophic doctrine of ‘Chronic Miasms’ comes to his succor. His many celebrated disciples as, e.g., Dr. Compton Burnett, and Drs. Clarke, Cooper, and Drysdale, inter alia, blazed many a trail to guide the inquisitive minds. The introduction and establishment of myriad zoic or nosodic medicines is a very powerful armamentarium in possession of the modern homeopaths. Hahnemann’s Psorinum, Syphilinum and Medorrhinum were very powerful therapeutic weapons. The new additions widened the horizon beyond limits. Tuberclinum, Bacilllinum, Carcinocine, Schirrhinum, Typhoidinum, and morbillinum and scores of other, have become indispensable tools for the advanced homeopathy.
The most characteristic advantage of these nosodic tools is that they give you mastery over the entry into a chronic case, at any point, chronologically speaking, of your choice, in the long array of chronic ailments, or history, of a patient. In a case, e.g., that has been badly infested by autoimmune strains, you can choose to by-pass them and start the case from any point of its past history. For example, a case of chronic ill health may comes to you, with the presenting complaints that defy any normal or routine treatment—as is usually the case with autoimmune disorders and which do not allow you to handle it in the normal therapeutic ways.
Let’s take a concrete example. A case comes to you with a chronic suffering with the rheumatoid arthritis culminating into Lupus erythematosus with many supervening strains, prominent among which is continuous high fever with incessant cough, that accepts no homeopathically indicated remedy. Finding the case totally unresponsive of any homeopathic treatment, one decides to take the full case. The following facts came to light.
- The patient had a very severe and prolonged typhoid fever, at the age of 10 to 11; that left the patient emaciated with falling of scalp hair;
- Prior to it she had a full attack of measles followed by whooping cough;
- After which she developed generalized eczema.
In her ancestry she had strong strains of T.B. and hay-fever.
Now there are three to four points of entry, viz. measles, typhoid, eczema, and a tendency to hay fever which has, as its bed-rock, a definite tendency to tuberculosis. We have here at least four remedies to start treating the case.
- Morbilinum for measles;
- Pertussin for whooping cough;
- Typhoidinum for typhoid; and
- Psorinum for Eczema
- Tuberculinum and Bacillinum (or Bacitub—a combination of both—a very strong and all-embracing nosode), for Hay fever and Tubercular miasm.
Now we have five very forceful weapons to enter the case, circumventing or by-passing all the intricacies of the present autoimmune disorders. To your amazement the case will start responding positively. You’ll forget all the difficulties that you previously experienced.
But here should be a definite methodology for choosing or selecting the remedies in some order. Practically we have seen that the reverse order, chronologically, is the best.The latest chronological happening should be dealt first. The latest in this case was typhoid. So, the first prescription was Typhoidinum. But typhoidinum worked so comprehensively and acted continuously in this case that no other remedy was needed for many months to come. Never overlook ‘Typhoid’ during your case-taking. Typhoid lays down an all-pervading ground for life-long ill health. The case travelled backward so surely and positively that one is left marveled at that.
When a case is started from a point in the past history the hold of the present complaints gets loosened and disappears gradually.
